Location:  Northwest New Mexico east of Farmington.

Access:  From the junction of U.S. Highway 64 & New Mexico State Highway 527 (34 miles west of Dulce, 44 miles east of Bloomfield), journey northweston Highway 527 for 17 paved miles to the park entrance; continue for 0.8 miles, (past the visitor center), then turn right onto the main loop; or continue for an additional 0.1 mile and turn left into the upper loop.

Facilities: 43 camp/picnic sites in 2 loops; (additional, primitive sites are also avcailable); sites are small to average in size, with norminal to fair separation; parking pads are short to medium-length, sand/earth straight-ins or pull offs; many pads may require additional levceling; tent spots tend to be small, sloped and rocky; a number of sites have ramadas (sun shelters); b-y-o shade “just in case”; fireplaces, plus some barbecue grills; b-y-o firewood; water at central faucets; restrooms; gas and camper supplies on Highway 64 about 20 miles south; limited supplies and services are available in Bloomfield and Dulce.

Activities & Attractions: Boating; boat launch; marina; fishing for rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike, crfappie, bluegill and catfish; small visitor center; hiking.

Natural Features: Located on a point on Sims Mesa at the southeast corner of Navajo Lake, a giant reservoir formed on the San Juan River; 13,000-acre Navajo Lake has 200 miles of shoreline; park vegetation consists of junipers, pinon pines, sagebrush, and sparse grass; most sites are on an open, lightly forested slope, a few sites are lakeside; many sites have good views through the trees of the lake and surrounding colorful mesas; elevation 6,100′.

Camp Notes: It is possible to find seclusion at the end of a paved road.  Sims Mesa tends to be much quieter than the other campgrounds on Navajo Lake.  The camp is seldom filled to capacity
